NITA Engages Stakeholders on Ghana Electronic Document Wallet Ecosystem

The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) has hosted an Early Market Engagement session on the proposed Ghana Electronic Document Wallet (GEDW) Initiative, bringing together key stakeholders to help shape the future of trusted digital credentials in Ghana.

The engagement brought together representatives from government, academia, the financial sector, technology companies, startups, and the private sector to deliberate on how Ghana can build a secure, interoperable, and citizen-focused digital document ecosystem.

The proposed Ghana Electronic Document Wallet Ecosystem is expected to transform how citizens, businesses, and institutions receive, manage, share, and verify digital documents. By reducing reliance on paper-based processes and manual verification, the initiative aims to improve efficiency, strengthen digital trust, and reduce the risks associated with document fraud.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NITA, Ing. Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor, underscored the critical role of trusted digital systems in accelerating national development and improving service delivery. He noted that secure and interoperable digital platforms are essential to building confidence in Ghana’s digital transformation journey.

Mr. Emmanuel Ofori, Director for Innovation at the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, reaffirmed Government’s commitment to a citizen-centred digital transformation agenda, emphasizing the importance of systems that protect personal data while improving access to services.

A technical presentation delivered by Mr. Solomon Kofi Richardson, Head of Technical Services at NITA, provided stakeholders with insights into the vision, architecture, governance framework, and implementation roadmap of the proposed ecosystem. The presentation highlighted how the GEDW Initiative will enable trusted digital credential management and verification across both public and private sector institutions.

As Ghana continues to advance its digital public infrastructure, the Ghana Electronic Document Wallet Ecosystem is positioned as a major step toward a secure, paperless, and trusted digital future. Through collaboration with stakeholders, NITA is laying the foundation for a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-focused digital ecosystem for Ghana.
