The 2nd Africa Open Data Conference will be held in Accra, Ghana from 17 – 21 July 2017 at the Accra International Conference Centre. The Government of Ghana is hosting the conference through the Ministry of Communications. The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) is the organizing Agency.

AODC is a world-class conference featuring participants and speaker who are expert in their field and leading global conversation and action in open data for growth and prosperity in Africa.  The event will run for five full day and will include hands-on training, plenary and breakout sessions, workshops, and convening in-person and virtual participants from across the continent and global stakeholders and influencers.  Participants will include government leadership, civil servants, industry executives, telecommunications organizations, researchers, data journalist, students, innovators, entrepreneurs, donors, investors, farmers, health care workers, and others.  Core themes of this second Africa Open Data Conference are: Gender, Health, Agriculture, Sustainable Development Goals, Extractives Industry, & Education.

  1. The Ghana specific outcomes from the conference includes the following:
  2. Help identify issues relating to access and use of open data
  3. Facilitate stakeholder engagement to increase open data use in Ghana and Africa
  4. Drive use of open data by business, the media, governments, civil society and the public.
  5. Promoting the development and harmonization of data standards across board
  6. Identify the kind of data regime need for the most effective and robust systems for the implementation and reaching the SDG’s
  7. Identify and increase the demand for open Government Data in Ghana and Africa

As part of the communications strategy, the Ministry of communications is organizing a Press Launch of the Conference on Monday, 5 June 2017 at 10:00am at the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) conference room on the 3rd Floor of New Ministry of Communications Office Complex adjacent to the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (KACE) in Ridge, Accra.
